The Matheen Irfan Skill Center was recently launched by the Association for the Mentally Challenged (AMC) in Bangalore. The new center is laid out to help the families of people who have intellectual and developmental disabilities. It aims to teach new skills to the ones who care for them. It is part of the Project ENRICH program of the AMC.
Mr. Irfan Razack, the Chairman and Managing Director of the Prestige Group opened the center. His generous grant in memory of his son, Matheen Irfan, played a key role in creating the skill center. It helped bring it to fruition. Initial funding was by Dr Srinivasa Murthy. He was the driving force behind the setting up of the vital space.
The Mathreen Irfan Skill Center is a state-of-the-art center on the AMC grounds. It covers a sprawling area of 2,600 square feet. The AMC is an NGO in Bangalore that works to improve the lives of people with Intellectual Disability Disorder. Set up in 1960, it supports children, adolescents, and adults. To date, it has helped more than 200 people.
The center’s goal is to train the caregivers of people with disabilities in a variety of vocational fields. These will empower them to work and be independent. They will also be able to explore new employment options. It aims to help them increase their incomes and better their lives.
The center aims to teach many skills and courses to help better lives. A news release shares that the courses to be offered here now are tailoring and candle-making. There will be further courses that will be added in the future. These will include gardening and landscaping, carpentry, and computer data entry.
The launch is a step forward in the AMC's efforts to support caregivers. It will make a major difference in the lives of the people. It will empower them to explore opportunities using the skills learned. These efforts will go a long way in building a more independent community.
